What is Oil Painting?

Oil painting is one of the most demanding forms of artistic expression — built up over weeks in layer upon layer of color. That investment shows in every canvas: a depth and presence that commands a room, shifting its atmosphere entirely. The quiet lives of the gardeners who tend Monet's garden in Giverny, France, form the heart of this work — a beauty that cannot be seen with the eye, pressed into paint, one canvas at a time.
Why I Paint Oil

On a morning in 2023, visiting Monet's garden in Giverny, I watched a gardener on the lily pond — quietly lifting withered branches from the water. In that still figure, caught in early light, I saw the faces of everyone who had supported me through my years as a school principal, working unseen behind the scenes. That was the moment my life's mission became clear: to spend my days painting those who work quietly for others. Every piece carries that feeling within it.
